Refund Support Vocations Program (RSVP)

The Refund Support Vocations Program (RSVP) is a Knights of Columbus initiative that provides financial, moral, and spiritual support to seminarians, religious postulants, and novices as they prepare to serve the Church. Through RSVP, Knights of Columbus councils, parish families, and individual parishioners work together to encourage and assist those discerning a religious vocation.

Why RSVP Matters

Founded by Blessed Michael McGivney, the Knights of Columbus has long supported the priesthood and religious life. As future priests and religious devote themselves to formation, they often face expenses not fully covered by their seminaries or religious communities. RSVP helps provide practical assistance while reminding these men and women that they are supported by the faithful.

The program fosters a culture of vocations by connecting parishes, councils, and families with those preparing to serve the Church. It also helps parishioners deepen their understanding of their own call to faith and service.

How Donations Help

Funds raised through RSVP are used to assist seminarians and those in religious formation with needs such as:

• Books and educational materials
• Car insurance and transportation expenses
• Vehicle maintenance
• Emergency expenses
• Other living and formation-related needs

These gifts help reduce financial burdens so that those in formation can focus on their spiritual, academic, and pastoral preparation.

More Than Financial Support

A unique aspect of RSVP is the commitment to provide ongoing spiritual and personal encouragement. Knights of Columbus councils are encouraged to “adopt” seminarians, postulants, or novices and support them through:

• Prayer for their vocation and formation
• Holiday, birthday, and encouragement cards
• Invitations to parish and council events
• Vocational dinners and fellowship opportunities
• Personal outreach and communication

This moral and spiritual support is a central part of the program and can have a lasting impact on those discerning a lifetime commitment to God’s service.

How Councils Can Get Involved

Every Knights of Columbus council can play a role in promoting and supporting vocations through RSVP. Councils are encouraged to:

1. Establish a parish or council RSVP goal.
2. Identify seminarians, postulants, or novices to support.
3. Organize fundraising activities such as:
   • Special collections for vocations
   • Vocations breakfasts or dinners
   • Community fundraisers
   • Parish-wide donation campaigns
4. Promote the program through parish bulletins, websites, social media, and pulpit announcements.
5. Encourage parishioners to participate through donations, prayer, and volunteer support.

Supreme Council Refund Benefit

To encourage support for vocations, the Knights of Columbus Supreme Council provides a refund to participating councils. For every $500 donated to an individual seminarian, postulant, or novice, a council or assembly may receive a $100 refund, up to a maximum refund of $400 per individual supported.

How Parishioners Can Help

Everyone can participate in supporting future priests and religious by:

• Making a financial contribution through their local council’s RSVP efforts
• Praying regularly for vocations
• Attending vocation-related events
• Writing notes of encouragement to seminarians and religious in formation
• Inviting others to learn about and support the program

Together, these efforts help strengthen the future of the Church and encourage those answering God’s call.
